Real
deal, ALL “Numbers Matching”
Every major mechanical component on this car is the “factory installed” part &
is numbers matching correct with the only exceptions being that the original carburetor is not currently
on the car, but does come with the car, and the points ignition, which has been upgraded to “electronic
ignition” for reliability.
The original “numbers matching” motor was rebuilt in 2008 and it has only been driven approximately
1,279 “pampered” break-in miles since its rebuild.

How many did they make ( 1 of 1) ?
A 1971 Big Block Camaro was RARE when
new, and even harder to find today. It is next to impossible to find a big
block 4-speed Camaro with all its major numbers matching components still in tach.
Collectors and Investors have always,
and will always, put a premium on this most elusive of Camaros, the “396 4-Speed”.
number of 396 “big block” Camaros built
Out of 114,630 Camaros built in 1971, only 1,533 had the “big Block” 396 motor. It was RARE when new, and utlra hard to find today – especially with its original numbers
matching motor.
number
of 4-Speed / 396 Camaros built
9.3% of the Camaros in 1971 had 4-Speed transmissions. Using that percentage, one can estimate that ONLY 142 big block
(396) Camaros came from the factory with a 4-Speed.
Of those 142 Camaros that were “big blocks with 4-Speeds”, how many were TRIPLE BLACK with all
32 of the options listed below? My guess is one, and this is that car.

Mechanically FRESH / RECEIPTS INCLUDED
With ONLY 1,279 miles since the motor was rebuilt, it’s
VERY FRESH, with many years of enjoyment and many thousands of miles left on it.
The motor rebuild receipt says it was rebuilt to “1969 Specs”
with a 500 lift Cam 280.296. with 9.2 compression ratio ….. included in the rebuild were NEW Pistons, Rings, Valve
Job, Rod Bearings, Mains, Cam Bearings, Cam Shaft, Oil Pump, Chain, Gear, Freeze Plugs, Lifters, Gaskets, Sized Rods, turn
Crank 10 -10, ETC.
In
addition to the receipt for the motor rebuild, there are receipts for the following (ALL within the last 1,200 miles):
radiator / water
pump / carburetor / belts / hoses / electronic ignition /
complete AC system & AC “converted to R34”
/ rear axle / front end /
brake hoses / brake booster / brake master cylinder
/ sway bars / clutch
Power Steering pump / body mount bushings / rear main seal / Muffler
/ Alternator / Tires / ETC. The transmission appears to be rebuilt as it is surgically clean and shifts
like new – however, I do not have a receipt to document the rebuild.
PERFORMANCE (watch VIDEO)
It will BOIL “both” rear tires …… or cruise the town in total reliability and comfort !
This is a turn key car that has been completely
sorted out with over 1,200 break in miles on the motor rebuild. It is ready to enjoy. It starts immediately, sounds great,
runs great, pulls hard and does NOT overheat …. ALL on today’s PUMP GAS.
The experience behind the wheel is simply “excellent”.
It feels much like it would have the day it left the showroom floor. The car is super tight. The doors do NOT drop when opened
and the windows nest properly into the roofline. The optional deluxe cloth interior is very comfortable and with the “Air
Conditioning” it can be driven in the summer. The TILT steering combined with Power Disc Brakes and Quick Ratio
Power Steering make for an easy one hand driving experience.
It is quiet on the inside but has a GREAT “muscle car sound” on
the outside. Surprisingly, the original STEREO radio sounds very good for such old technology!
Fly in for the drive home of a lifetime.
Paint
Body & Interior
paint code is 19 B …… Tuxedo Black with Black Vinyl top
interior code is 785 …. Black “custom cloth”
interior
“Black on Black” muscle cars are rare and highly sought after by the collector car community. This is
a true “triple Black” car .
rust FREE body & floors
I have examined this car carefully, including up on a lift and by crawling into
the trunk to look down the inside of the quarters. This car has its original body panels that are free of the typical body
rot (rust out). I cannot find a patch panel anywhere on this car. The floors and the trunk pan are also original and rust
free. Even the lower “inner quarter drops” are perfect (this is normally the first place you will see rust on
a Camaro, and these are original and perfect – see the PHOTOS).
The paint: The car has had one repaint which is slick and highly reflective with that deep “wet look”.
I would call it a very nice show/driver paint job. Like any car that has been driven, it has some very minor flaws commiserate
with age and usage. The vinyl top still looks new and thus my guess is it was replaced when the car was repainted. The car
is visually very impressive. It turns heads wherever it goes.
The interior is original with the exception of the seats, which were recovered. They were recovered using hounds tooth as
opposed to the herringbone pattern that came in a 71. In general, I would describe the interior as very nice, comparable with
that of a low mileage garaged survivor of this era (no evidence of heavy wear or fatigue).
What’s
it worth ?
It is almost impossible to find a “truly comparable” car. The last two 1971 “396 4-speed”
cars I saw were both priced over $50k and one had a replacement block. I can send you info on both. Both of these cars were
inferior to this one in terms of options and “eye pop”. The car comes with an APPRASIAL from “Auto Appraisal
Professionals” out of Houston Texas dated April 8th, 2008 that sets its value at between $62,000 & $62,500.
The SPECIAL CARS among the “2nd gen
Camaros & Trans Ams” are only just now starting to take off . This one is unquestionably one of the
most special among that group. The next 10 years and on will be very good to the blue chip 1970 to 1973 2nd gen
cars.
It is only going
to go up in value.
